Class Descriptions

Spring 2011 Programming:

Intro to Taijijuan/Qigong. $60. Wednesdays 04/13—06/01. 6:30‐7:30PM. Qigong can help you cultivate the flow of your healing chi energy natural to your body’s health system. Taijijuan is a powerful method to hone your body’s health systems. This class will present one common Yang style that is easy to learn and bring you closer to your own inner balance. (All ages. No class 04/27.) Instructed by Day Acheson.

English as a Second Language (ESL). $160. Thursdays 04/07—05/26. 6‐8PM. Learn the basics of communicating in English on a daily basis. (Ages 18+.) Instructed by Gayle Schechtman.

Group String Lessons. $120. Fridays 04/08—05/27. 6‐7:30PM. Improve your instrumental skills by rocking out with fellow string enthusiasts. Includes violin, viola, cello, and upright bass. (All ages/levels welcome.) Instructed by Gayle Schechtman.

Rhythm Tap Dance. $60. Thursdays 04/14—05/19. 7‐8PM. Learn the basics of Jazz/Rhythm Tap Dance and apply them to more challenging arrangements. Improv, historical routines, creative vocabulary, style, mechanics and meditative aspects of tap
dancing will be covered. (All ages/levels welcome. Shoe rentals $5.) Instructed by Stefanie Weber.

Adventures in Fairy Tales. $150. Thursdays & Fridays 04/14—06/03. 4‐5:30PM. Experience a whirlwind of theatrical fun while staging contemporary and classic fairy tales in this eightweek youth acting workshop. Performance 06/03. (3rd‐5th graders.) Instructed by Gayle Schechtman.

Humor Writing. $60. 04/16—05/28. This web-based writing workshop examines classic humor writing techniques while refining individual students’ humor styles. (All ages. Internet access required.) Instructed by Seth Brown.

Creative Writing. $60. Saturdays 04/23—05/28. 11AM‐12PM. Learn to harness and evolve individual brainstorming, writing, and revisionary techniques. Short fiction, creative non‐fiction, poetry, and playwriting all covered in this collaborative workshop. (Ages 12+.) Instructed by Eric K. Auld.

Beginner’s Dance. $240. Wednesdays & Sundays 04/27—06/05. Wednesdays 7‐9PM, Sundays 5‐7PM. Learn, practice, and master world‐known, rudimentary dancing and movement techniques in this intensive six‐week class. (Ages 10+.) Instructed by Christena

Digital Camera for Dummies. $50. Saturday 05/07. 5‐9PM. Don’t know how to use your camera? Learn the fundamentals in this helpful 4‐hour workshop. (All ages. Digital camera required. $90 combo with Digital Photography 101.) Instructed by Gillian Jones.

Digital Photography 101. $50. Saturday 05/21. 5‐9PM. Explore the unique insights you can offer the rest of the world from behind your lens. A continuation of Digital Camera for Dummies. (All ages. Digital camera required. $90 combo with Digital Camera for Dummies.) Instructed by Gillian Jones.

Master Vocal Workshop. $30. Saturday 05/14. 4‐7PM. Harness the power of your vocal chords while learning both basic and advanced singing exercises and techniques. (Ages 10+.) Instructed by Christena Latimer.

Experimental Dance. $30. Saturday 05/28. 1‐4PM. Using improvisation and other movement techniques, explore various methods of creative self‐expression
through dance in this intensive one‐day workshop. (All ages.) Instructed by Sarah Rae Brown.

Digital SLR for Beginners. $50. Saturday 06/04. 5‐9PM. So you’ve graduated from a point‐and‐shoot up to a digital single‐lens reflex camera (DSLR) with interchangeable lenses? Learn all about the extra bells and whistles on your fancy new camera. (All ages.
DSLR camera required.) Instructed by Gillian Jones.
